"Five more minutes," "I'm thirsty," "I'm scared"… The bedtime marathon exhausts parents. But from a child's point of view, going to sleep means separating — from you, from play, from the day. A predictable ritual makes that separation gentle instead of abrupt.
The 4 parts that work: 1) a clear shift (dim lights, screens off an hour before), 2) care steps in the same order every night (bath, pajamas, teeth), 3) a connection moment — a story, then "what was the best part of your day?", 4) the same short, warm goodbye every single night.
Consistency matters more than perfection: the same sequence at roughly the same time tells your child's brain, "you can let go now." Give a new ritual about two weeks to become a real anchor.
